Nationwide has pledged to stay in towns and cities where it has branches until at least 2026.
The building society operates from 605 sites nationally and its latest branch promise marks the third time it has extended the pledge, which it first made in 2019.
However, the commitment does not prevent Nationwide from shutting sites because there are some towns and cities where it has more than one branch and it could choose to consolidate its resources. Landlords also could force closures on the group.
