Nationwide raises its age limit for mortgages

Nationwide Building Society has become the second large mortgage lender in a week to raise the upper age limit for its loans.

The lender will increase the maximum age limit to 85 from 75 currently, effective in July. The move follows an announcement by Halifax last week that it would raise its limit to 80 from 75.

Customers will be able to borrow until they are 80 years old, subject to retirement income and a maximum age at maturity of 85.
