Native Land has appointed its director of commercial and mixed-use development to its board, as the developer looks to continue its push away from its traditional base of residential projects.
Jay Squier, who has worked at the developer for more than a decade, will be responsible for Native Land’s entire 550,000 sq ft portfolio of office developments in central London.
The vast majority of that is included in three buildings at its ongoing Bankside Yards redevelopment scheme on the South Bank, which totals 420,000 sq ft. That includes the 225,000 sq ft Arbor building.
It also covers a 75,000 sq ft office building at 105 Judd Street, WC1; 45,000 sq ft at OneThreeSix in Marylebone, W1, which was let to fintech company Smart earlier this year; and 15,000 sq ft as part of a proposed mixed-use development around South Kensington Station.
Squier said: “With the continued evolution of thinking around workplace and placemaking, the role of commercial and mixed-use development in cities presents exciting challenges which Native Land is well placed to meet.
“I’m excited to be joining the board at such a time, and look forward to playing a part in the company’s growth into a leading developer of large-scale, sustainable projects, while retaining an emphasis on quality, innovation and relationships.”
Prior to joining Native Land Squire spent five years at Grosvenor, where he led projects in Mayfair and Belgravia, including 1-5 Grosvenor Place, a joint venture with Derwent London and Peninsula Hotels.
Alasdair Nicholls, chief executive of Native Land, said: “Jay has played an integral role in the delivery of some of Native Land’s most successful developments over the last 10 years and brings considerable experience to the board, not least with current commercial projects like Arbor, which aims to set new standards for the contemporary workplace.
“We expect our pipeline of commercial and mixed-use developments to grow, driven by an active acquisitions strategy and our access to funding from a strong stable of global co-investors.”
