The grounds of the Natural History Museum, SW7, are to be completely remodelled.
The museum has secured consent to develop the landscape around the Grade I listed Waterhouse Building to create a new civic square, shop and restaurants.
The masterplan also includes a new step-free entrance to the museum from the South Kensington station tunnel and a refashioning of the grounds with pathways, ponds, terraces and biodiverse plants.
The centrepiece of the project will be a bronze life-size model of Dippy, the iconic diplodocus, which will graze in a Jurassic garden.
Deloitte Real Estate Planning co-ordinated the applications for planning permission and listed building consent and led the stakeholder engagement strategy.
The proposals were developed by Niall McLaughlin Architects and Kim Wilkie Landscape Architects over a two-year period.
