Both bidders for NatWest would move the bank’s head office to Edinburgh.
The Financial Times says such a move by Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) or Bank of Scotland would transform the city. It says firms which provide services to the bank would also want to have offices there.
RBS is preparing to offer an undertaking to the Office of Fair Trading on branch disposals, among other issues, in an attempt to prevent its £25bn bid being referred to the Competition Commission.
