Network Rail announces property chief’s departure

Network Rail has lost its third property chief in four years following the departure this week of Deborah Richards.

Staff at the not-for-profit company were told on Wednesday that the head of Railway Estates had ‘decided to leave by mutual consent’ amid the review of the 500-strong property team.

Richards had been responsible for the review, which was instigated by new chairman of the property board, Ross Sayers.

Network Rail said Richards’ departure was not a sign that the overhaul of property division had hit the buffers.

Richards is not expected to be replaced, but former BT property chief and Network Rail’s current head of commercial property John Pike will now report directly to the Network Rail board.
