Network Rail will report back this spring or summer on a study into improving the rail link between London and Stansted, chancellor of the exchequer George Osborne confirmed.
The owner of Stansted airport, MAG, noted the airport had capacity to grow and described a faster rail service to the capital as “vital.” Network Rail had been criticized after it failed to prioritize the link in its plans for East Anglia.
Osborne said he and mayor Boris Johnson were also creating a West Anglia Task Force to look into connections to Stansted and Cambridge from Liverpool Street. It will report in just over two years.
