The ill-fated Cardiff Bay opera house project has been resurrected following a £51m bid for National Lottery funding. It will be re-named the Wales Millennium Centre. The £86m building will be home to the National Opera. It will seat 2,000, have an “interactive museum of the sea” and a large-screen cinema. Sir Alan Cox is heading a company set up to promote the centre.
The now-defunct opera house trust failed in its £50m bid to the Millennium Commission last December. It is hoped the new complex will open on March 1, 2001.
