BMW’s new board is expected to make recommendations about the future of its Rover Longbridge plant within two weeks.
The board meet tomorrow for the first time following the departure of BMW chairman Bernd Pischetsrieder, who has been replaced by Joachim Milberg.
Longbridge could close if the board does not agree to press ahead with the former chairman’s plans to spend about £1.3bn on the plant.
But trade unions are optimistic following initial talks between BMW and the government. The Independent on Sunday wrote that the future of the plant looked doomed, yet today’s The Independent says its immediate future looks to have been secured. William Rees-Mogg writes in The Times that sooner or later the plant will probably close.
