A further cut in interest rates by the Bank of England could see fixed rates on mortgages drop below 1% next year.
Analysts at Bernstein expect two-year fixed mortgage rates for people with a 20% deposit to fall by 50 basis points from the current 1.6%-1.7% as competition among banks for new customers intensifies.
The BoE next meets to decide on interest rates in early November.
