Melanie Leech, the incoming chief executive of the British Property Federation, will start her new role on 12 January.
She joins from the Food and Drink Federation where she has served as director general for the past nine years.
Outgoing chief executive Liz Peace – who formally retired in October – has continued to fill the roll on a part-time basis during the interim period.
