New builds in ‘volatile’ capital fall sharply as doubts take toll

The number of homes that developers are planning to build in London has fallen to the lowest level since the height of the financial crash, despite the capital suffering a housing shortage.

The National House Building Council, whose data covers 80% of all new-builds in Britain, said that developers registered 14,795 homes to build in London in the year to the end of March.

This was a 23% drop on the previous year and the lowest number since 2009-10, when 12,161 homes were registered in the capital.
