Surveyors who reported an increase in new-buyer inquires climbed in January to 16% more than those reporting a fall.
The latest Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors figure compares with 37% more surveyors who reported a drop in inquiries in the same month last year. The turnaround in London was more dramatic where 38% of surveyors saying the number of inquiries rose, up from 1% more saying they were falling a year ago.
However, surveyors sold fewer homes per agency in the three months to January than at any time in the past 30 years. An average of 9.8 properties changed hands for each estate agency branch, down from 10 in December.
