Wimbledon has revealed plans for a new 8,000-seat show court and 38 additional grass courts.
The proposals are part of the largest expansion in its history.
In an attempt “to maintain the championships as the premier tennis tournament in the world”, the 42-acre All England Club will almost treble in size by 2030 if planning permission is granted this summer to transform the adjacent 73-acre Wimbledon Park Golf Club, purchased three years ago for £63.75m.
Central to the plans is the creation of a roofed “Parkland court” for ground pass holders that will be surrounded by ancient oak trees.
