New dawn for former Brighton cinema

The vacant Astoria Cinema site in Brighton, east Sussex, is to be redeveloped as one of the city’s greenest office buildings.

The site, owned by H30 Media, is being transformed into a circa 50,000 sq ft BREEAM-excellent office scheme, designed by Conran + Partners.

The new six-storey, mixed-use scheme in Gloucester Place is to anchor a new arts and media quarter.

The cinema opened in 1933. It stopped showing films in 1977 and became a bingo hall until 1996 when it closed down.
