Revised designs for the redevelopment of Manchester’s Free Trade Hall as a £45m five-star hotel have been unveiled.
Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott threw out the original plans for the Peter St site in 1998 after a public inquiry.
A 16-storey tower will replace those parts of the concert hall reconstructed following bomb damage during the Second World War. The listed 1850s façade on Peter St will be retained.
The hotel will be the first Radisson Edwardian hotel outside London and will comprise 263 rooms on 16 storeys.
A consortium comprising Alfred McAlpine Special Projects, The O’Rourke Group and Laings is building the hotel.
Completion is scheduled for early 2004.
