Plans have been submitted by a Kuwaiti-backed developer to turn a site on the corner of Hanover Street and Princes Street in Edinburgh into a luxury hotel and tea room.
The company – RRH Hanover A – hopes to turn five underused buildings in Hanover Street and Rose Street into a 60-bedroom hotel.
The development will consolidate unused space above several commercial units into a series of interlinked properties, reorganise the ground-floor units and add new space.
The hotel will be operated by RÌGH Properties. The development also includes the reintroduction of a tearoom on Hanover Street, which was once occupied by Crawford’s Tearooms. The 1920s tearooms were decorated and furnished by Scottish artist Robert Burns. The proposed scheme also includes rooftop terraces, a fitness studio and guest lounge overlooking the Mound and Princes Street Gardens.
RRH is currently developing 27 luxury serviced apartments in a refurbished category-A listed building at 71 George Street, to be operated under the RÌGH Properties brand. The company also plans to refurbish 73-75 George Street into serviced apartments.
