The proposed new route for the high-speed rail link through South Yorkshire is likely to mean the demolition of hundreds of homes on a housing development that is only a few years old.
Andrew Weaver, chief executive of Strata, the developer of the Shimmer estate, said he was shocked. There are 212 homes on the site.
The new route will include a stop in the centre of Sheffield, rather than the construction of a new station in Meadowhall, and will mean savings of more than £1bn as well as affecting fewer homes overall.
