Financial trading firm New Line Networks has made an application to Dover district council to build a 1,000 ft tall mast in Kent.
The mast would be sited close to one of similar height planned by Vigilant Global. The aim is to create the fastest communications link to continental Europe – NLN said in its application that Richborough was uniquely positioned for such a structure, which would enable the transmission times for traders’ orders to be shortened, producing a competitive advantage for them.
NLN’s tower, if approved, is expected to be operational by the first half of 2017, around the same time as the rival structure.
