New motorway service station for M1

leeds-extra-msa-service-station-cgiA “new concept” £50m motorway service area with a grass-topped roof and 100-bedroom hotel has been granted outline planning permission by Leeds City Council.

Extra MSA Group’s Leeds Skelton Lake Services at junction 45 of the M1 will comprise a food court, business centre, filling station and 100-bedroom hotel.

The site, which is located at the gateway to the Leeds Enterprise Zone, will also include a new visitor centre, community space and an upper-floor viewing deck over Skelton Lake.

Construction is expected to start in Q3 this year, which would mean the development could be completed by Autumn 2018.

By improving walking routes to and around Skelton Lake, the scheme will form part of a ‘green corridor’ linking Temple Newsam to the north with Rothwell Country Park.
