Peel L&P has revised plans to transform Quayside MediaCity in Salford, Greater Manchester, to reflect the needs of the local community post-pandemic.
In 2019, the regeneration company secured planning permission for a scheme known as Watergardens. However, the pandemic has refocused what the local community needs.
The new plans feature the redevelopment of the southern canal side walkway into a waterside food, drink and retail offering. Specifically, Peel L&P is looking to build six new pop-up units created from shipping containers, new terraces for outdoor dining, enhanced landscaping as well as an indoor foodhall and community space.
Stephen Wild, Peel L&P’s director for strategic investment and growth, said: “A consultation with those who live and work within Salford Quays during 2021 identified an appetite for an enhanced provision of independent shops, cafes and restaurants, markets or a market hall and a medical centre.
“We have listened to all the views shared and revised our plans to reflect what people have said. We hope this next phase of investment will enable the shopping centre to successfully play its part in the Quays town centre provision for the long term as the number of residents here grow.”
