B&S Ventures, a joint venture between Scottish company Bett Properties and London-based Struttbrook, has submitted a planning application for a 5,110 sq m (55,000 sq ft) shopping mall in Omagh, Northern Ireland.
Earlier in the year, the town centre suffered a devastating bomb attack for which the “Real IRA” claimed responsibility.
B&S plans to build the mall behind the listed facades of the hotel and two shops which currently occupy the High Street site. It wants to start work on the 14-unit mall next spring and open in time for Christmas 1999.
Andrew Marsden of local property consultant Linsey, which acted for B&S, said that there was huge demand for space from national High Street retailers. “They have never been able to find space because the High Street is quite restricted. [The mall] will effectively be an extension of the High Street.” Marsden estimates that the scheme will have an end value of around £7m.
PA Brannigan & Co acted for B&S along with Linsey on the acquisition of the site and have been retained to advise on the scheme. Mooney & Reilly represented the vendors.
