Inmobiliaria Ason is to build a new tower on the site of Madrid’s Edificio Windsor, which was gutted by fire last month.
Accountancy firm Deloitte & Touche occupied 20 floors of the 32-floor, 106m landmark tower in the Chamartin commercial district. There were no casualties as the fire occurred over a weekend.
The fire started on the 21st floor. Several explosions occurred during the blaze, which is thought to have been caused by an electrical fault. The destruction of the building means the loss of 30,000m² of prime offices in the Spanish capital. Windsor’s tenants were paying a total rent reported to be 500,000 per m² a month.
