New West Brom HQ approved

The West Bromwich Building Society has been given the green light to build a 70,000 sq ft headquarters in the West Midlands city’s centre.

Sandwell council planners have granted consent for the Associated Architect’s-designed building, to be located at Providence Place, on the All Saints development in West Bromwich.

The society will relocate 700 staff from its current head office at 374 High Street in late 2014.

The building society had planned to take 70,000 sq ft at Richardson Capital’s Point North scheme in Brierley Hill, Dudley at a rent of £12 per sq ft on a 10-year lease. However, following strong local criticism from Sandwell council, among others, it pulled out of the deal, and decided to build its own new premises instead.

Chief executive of the building society, Jonathan Westhoff, said: ‘We are delighted that planning approval has been secured and the society can progress with the development of its new head office. It will enable us to create a facility that is a true reflection of our position as the region’s leading building society.”

GVA advised the West Bromwich Building Society.
