Newlands plans 2.9m sq ft Basingstoke green distribution hub

Newlands Developments has lodged plans for a 2.9m sq ft distribution and employment hub at Oakdown Farm in Basingstoke. It has submitted an outline planning application to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council for the development of the 82-acre site. The development will be zero carbon by 2030 and incorporates renewable energy, biodiversity zones and cycle and pedestrian routes. Newlands anticipates that the scheme could deliver 1,500 new jobs and in excess of £100m in investment into Basingstoke every year. It is in detailed discussions with local, regional and national occupiers. Pending planning consent it hopes to begin construction in spring 2021. John Barker, development director at Newlands, said: “With Basingstoke Gateway there is the potential for world-class business activity to be served across the local economy. “At this time of employment uncertainty in the wider economy, a wide range of jobs will be delivered for local residents, from entry level and unskilled; apprenticeships; through to skilled technical and managerial roles.” Avison Young is leading the consultation.
