NewRiver signs M&S for Canvey Island scheme

NewRiver has secured Marks & Spencer Simply Food as a tenant for its retail park redevelopment on Canvey Island, Essex.

M&S will occupy a formerly disused site. The signing of M&S brings the currently vacant development site to 72% prelet.

The new retail and leisure park will total 61,000 sq ft and will include five large modern units, a food and beverage “pod” and will introduce 256 new free car parking spaces in addition to the 550 provided by the adjacent Morrisons store.

M&S has taken a 11,500 sq ft store, with Sports Direct taking a 7,500 sq ft store, and B&M a 25,000 sq ft store.

Charles Spooner, director at NewRiver, said: “We are in discussion with a number of leading retail operators who are attracted to Canvey Island because of the catchment and high-quality, large-format space that this retail park will create. The retail park will complement the town’s existing retail offer and our investment will act as a catalyst for further growth and investment for Canvey Island, providing greater choice and variety for shoppers.”
