Next phase of Ancoats regeneration set for approval

Manchester City Council planners have recommended the approval of a 256-home scheme in the next phase of the Ancoats regeneration.

The Manchester Life Development Company scheme, known as Phoenix Ironworks, will be built on a two-acre brownfield site and will also include 14,500 sq ft of ground-floor commercial facilities, 256 cycle and 70 car-parking spaces.

The proposals form part of a number of residential-led developments around Poland Street, alongside the Mobility Hub, which is expected to deliver the infrastructure to support the new homes and population growth in the area.

Plans to enhance Ancoats have found broad support last year, with the city council agreeing to provide more than £30m of funding for the construction of some 1,500 homes and improvements to green space.

The council’s next meeting will be held on 16 November.
