Plans for 600 affordable homes at Silvertown in the Royal Docks have been approved by Newham Council’s planning committee. The homes will be delivered in collaboration with The Guinness Partnership.
Plot 78 will help form Silvertown’s new Silo D Quarter and represents the next phase of development to be brought forward as part of The Silvertown Partnership’s masterplan. Plans for this neighbourhood include the restoration of the Grade II listed former grain silo, as well as a park that will connect to the existing Millennium Mills building.
Located on the western part of the Silvertown site, bordered by North Woolwich Road and Spillers Street, Plot 78 will include two pocket parks.
The regeneration of Silvertown is one of London’s largest urban redevelopment projects and will transform a 60-acre docklands site that has been largely vacant for more than 40 years. The project will deliver around 6,500 homes, with a focus on affordable housing.
Jess Wallis, project lead for Silvertown, said: “We’re making significant progress at Silvertown, and the site’s immense potential becomes more evident every day. This latest plot of homes is a crucial part of that momentum as we work with partners to continue to prioritise the delivery of housing as early as possible in the scheme.
“The addition of the first green spaces for residents and local communities is particularly significant, especially given how long the site has remained empty. Silvertown is taking shape in the heart of the Royal Docks and will soon emerge as a new destination for local people and Londoners alike.”
