NHS Estates is to bring more than 20 new sites to the market which could be redeveloped for predominantly residential schemes, writes Anita Howarth of EGi.
The proerty arm of the Department of HEalth has earmarked tyha land as part of its responce to new Treasury rules which allow government departments to keep a higher proportion of capital reciepts over the next three years
The new sites include nine large ones, in ;locations across the country, including Epsom, Fareham, Bournemouth and Blackburn.
So far NHS Estates has identified asset sales which would yield £566m over th next three years. Yolande Barnes, Head of FPDSavills Research, estimated that these sales could provide up to 68,000 new homes, 38,000 in urban areas.
Around a third of the supply is close to London – in areas defined as North and South Thames – where housing demand is highest.
