The Germans proposed a special aid package worth 500m euros to support peace in Northern Ireland at the heads of European Union (EU) governments’ summit in Berlin.
The Scottish Highlands and Islands would lose out to regions such as Cornwall, South Yorkshire and Merseyside under an EU austerity deal that was emerging from the summit last night. They are not considered poor enough to qualify for Objective One status.
