Niche agent appointed to dispose of Courts stores

Niche agent Leslie Furness has been appointed to find buyers for collapsed furniture retailer Courts by its administrator, KPMG.

Leslie Furness said it had already received several offers for both individual sites and packages of Courts shops. Courts has 68 out-of-town stores and 24 high-street shops.

Just a few days after Courts was placed in administration, KPMG said it had sent out about 155 selling packs to interested parties.

Tim Hance, joint managing director of Leslie Furness, said: “I have been overwhelmed by the interest from landlords in taking surrenders to exploit break-up or reletting opportunities and retailers who clearly appreciate the rare opportunity they have been offered to acquire prime retail warehouse space.”

Hance said the six high-street stores that are owned freehold by Courts would be fully marketed before Christmas.
