Niche retail and leisure agents merge

Retail and leisure agents Raven Rose and Stonebrook London have merged to form a new niche agency, called Matter London.

The new firm will focus on retail and leisure acquisitions in London, across the UK and internationally. The team will be based at 37 Foley Street in Fitzrovia, W1.

Co-founders Jake Bernstone, James Raven and Josh Rose have worked on deals including the recent flagship acquisition of the 18,000 sq ft former Rainforest Café on Shaftesbury Avenue, W1, on behalf of Albert’s Schloss; 30,000 sq ft at Shipyard, Spinningfields in Manchester on behalf of Sessions Market; and the disposals of Pizza East Shoreditch, E1, and Notting Hill, W10, on behalf of Soho House Group.

The partners have advised operators including Imbiba, White Rabbit, JKS and Caprice Holdings. They have also been involved in multi-site rollouts for Gorillas, Deliveroo, Pret a Manger, Rudy’s Pizza and Townhouse.

Bernstone began his career at Davis Coffer Lyons in 2012 before moving to head up retail and leisure within JLL’s newly formed “London Unlimited” team. He set up his own business Stonebrook in 2017.

Before setting up Raven Rose in 2020, Raven and Rose both followed similar career paths, starting at CBRE and Shelley Sandzer respectively before going in-house at their then-clients Doddle and Soho House Group.

Rose said the merger follows a “number of successful collaborations and deals together”. “This new venture will give our clients unrivalled access to off-market deals and together we will continue to build our reach domestically and internationally,” he added.

Bernstone said: “It’s been a fantastic experience to start up and run Stonebrook by myself, earning a great reputation along the way. However, within the restaurant and leisure agency world, it feels like there is a changing of the guard and I have actively been seeking the right partners to take advantage of this, collaborate with and become genuine market leaders to provide an enhanced service to our clients.

“Through our complimentary skillsets and personalities, I have no doubt Josh and James are the right partners and I look forward to seeing where we can take this business.”
