Manchester-based developer/investor Nikal has won consent for its £150m Altair scheme in Altrincham, Greater Manchester.
The Ian Simpson Architects-designed project includes the redevelopment of the town’s ice rink, plus 100,000 sq ft of offices, a 125-bed hotel, 72,000 sq ft of retail, 7,000 sq ft of leisure space and 31 homes.
Nikal secured planning consent in August 2008, but submitted a revised planning application last November, which include plans for a hospital and healthcare facility.

Jonathan Wrigley, development director at Nikal, said: “We took a view on including the hospital in our planning application. This in no way reflects any certainty as to whether the hospital comes to Altair, but if we are fortunate to be chosen then this consent means we can build immediately.”
