Nissan Tyne & Wear plant under ‘long-term threat’

Nissan’s Sunderland car plant is under long-term threat.

A replacement Almera model will not be built there unless Britain joins the euro, according to the company.

The £2bn Tyne and Wear factory builds the Primera, Micra and current Almera models. A decision will be made in 2005 whether to switch to Renault’s Douai factory in France.
