Nissan warns of threat to UK car manufacturing

Nissan has warned that currency instability and the euro’s weakness not only threatens its own investment at Sunderland but car manufacturing per se in the UK.

Peugeot, too, is reassessing the competitiveness of its Ryton plant, in the West Midlands, before making a decision on investing in a new paint shop.

The Financial Times reports Ford committing itself to sticking by its promise to turn Dagenham, in East London, into a diesel engine centre.

But The Times and The Guardian report that Ford warned it could close its Dagenham operation because of the threat of strike action.
