No development for future robots

MIPIM: The property sector should not be developing buildings for those whose jobs could be taken over by robots in the next 25 years a futurist economist has warned at this year’s Mipim conference.

Graeme Maxton warned that property developers should be aware of the job types most and least likely to be taken over by machines by 2030 when considering future clients and occupiers.

“If I was a developer, I would not be planning buildings for auditors or accountants right now,” he said at the Big Debate session today.

“The people we need to be providing property for are those in the creative and care industries. Those that require independent thought. So lawyers, but not legal secretaries. Journalists and editors, but not telemarketers.”
