No Filter episode two: Anchors away

John Lewis, Marks & Spencer and Debenhams have all been in the headlines in the opening quarter of this year. All retailers consolidating, shuttering and reimagining traditional stores in the face of an increasingly turbulent retail environment exacerbated by the unprecedented circumstances of the past 12 months.

This episode sees EG’s in-house analysts James Child and Graham Shone discuss what the continued exodus and redundancy of department stores means for the future of the high street, and the commensurate impact of “de-anchoring” on our town centres. If less retail space is required, what can and should fill those empty gaps?

Silver bullets, Sim City and another reference to “piano key” town centre management, all in the second instalment of No Filter.
