North West needs to attract a higher level of inward investment

As the UK economy picks up, the North West is lagging behind. Co-operative Bank’s Terry Thomas said the region has underperformed. Mr Thomas believes the North West must attract the same levels of investment as other areas like the North East and South Wales.

Thomas’ comments follow the dramatic changes at investment agency Inward, where the entire board resigned following criticism of its performance.

Growth rate in the region is below the average rate in the EU. Although manufacturing is forecast to grow by 26%, employment is set to fall 13%.
