A £1.7bn potash mine in the North York Moors National Park has been given the go-ahead after members of the park authority planning committee voted 8-7 in favour of the project.
Sirius Mines said the development could create around 2,000 jobs, both directly and indirectly, with many more being employed during the construction of the mine. It expects the mine to have a 100-year lifespan.
Opponents warn that the project could threaten tourism in the area, its main source of income.
