Northern Ireland bids for a share of call centre business

The Financial Times in its weekly article on the property market looks at the attempt of Northern Ireland to win a slice of the call centre business.

The province’s Industrial Development Board (IDB) has just held a presentation involving six private developers, who between them own 23,689 sq m (255,000 sq ft) of suitable call centre space available.

One key factor in their favour is that rents per square foot in Northern Ireland are £64.58 a sq m (£6 a sq ft) to £107.64 a sq m(£10 a sq ft), against £107.64 to £150.69 a sq m (£14 a sq ft) in other “call centre capitals”. Northern Ireland property values have risen sharply in the past three years since the first IRA ceasefire and have been boosted in the past year by the very strong demand for property in the Republic of Ireland.
