Northwest RDA funds £3.6m Manchester public promenade

The Northwest Regional Development Agency has agreed to fund the construction of a new £3.6m public promenade which will open up a key stretch of Manchester’s Trafford Quays, linking into Peel’s MediaCityUK scheme.

The project will extend the Trafford quayside in front of the Imperial War Museum North to create a 50,000 sq ft public space.

It will complete the missing part of a pedestrian loop along the riverside and will connect to a new footbridge currently being built to connect Trafford Quays with the MediaCityUK site on the opposite side of the Manchester Ship Canal.

As reported by EGi News (16/01/2010), broadcaster ITV is in talks with Peel over a 180,000 sq ft move to MediaCityUK, which could include relocating its famous Coronation Street set to a 100,000 sq ft plot on 7-acres at Trafford Quays.
