Nottingham centre provides simulating environment for construction experts

Sir Michael Latham opened a new construction virtual reality and simulation centre in Nottingham recently.

The £3m CIMI Reality Centre brings together world leaders in image recognition, knowledge-based technology for construction and the highest performance computer graphics.

This joint venture between the University of Nottingham, Engineering Technology and Silicon Graphics has most of the leading CAD, building modelling, facilities management and virtual reality software applications, to provide a real-world understanding of the issues of data integration.

At the launch, Sir Michael endorsed a plan to build a community of construction professionals and research institutes with access to the most advanced technology. This will embrace the objectives of both the Latham review and Anderson Consulting’s Construct IT.

CIMI Reality Centre is owned and managed by the University of Nottingham’s newly established Centre for Industrial and Medical Information (CIMI).

In the building and construction industry sector, the Reality Centre’s leading collaborator is Engineering Technology, a member of the Construct IT implementation team.
