Nottingham Evening Post signs up for new £6m HQ at Castle Wharf, Nottingham

Nottingham Evening Post Group has kick-started the Castle Wharf development in Nottingham city centre by selecting it as the location for a new £6m HQ.

The 1.75ha (4.5 acre) site, owned by Leicester-based Sowden Group and Nottingham company Monk Estates, has detailed planning consent for around 11,148 sq m (120,000 sq ft) of offices and two public houses.

Nottingham Post’s 3,950 sq m (42,500 sq ft) building will be the first office development on the site. The paper, which has been searching for a new headquarters since it was bought by Northcliffe Newspaper Group from the Forman Group two years ago, expects to have moved into its new headquarters by the start of 1998.

Forman Hardy Holdings submitted an outline planning application for the redevelopment of the Post’s present offices in Forman Street in July. But Nottingham Council is expected to refuse permission for the scheme, which comprises 14,864 sq m (160,000 sq ft) of offices and 929 sq m (10,000 sq ft) of retail.

Lambert Smith Hampton and Hawk Development Management advised Nottingham Evening Post. Sturgis Shattock & Partners acted for Sowden and Monk was represented by Nattrass Giles.

Nottingham solicitors Freeth Cartwright Hunt Dickins acted for the developers. The Nottingham Post Group was represented by the London office of Dibb Lupton Alsop.
