Number of help-to-buy Isa accounts tops a million

WEEKEND PAPERS: More than a million help-to-buy Isa accounts have been opened since the government launched the scheme in 2015.

More than £1.8bn has been accumulated in the accounts, which allow first-time buyers to save up to £200 a month towards a home, with the government topping it up with a 25% bonus or a maximum £3,000 once a home purchase is completed.

Help-to-buy Isas are to be replaced by Lifetime Isas, which can be used for either home purchases or retirement saving and which will also pay a 25% bonus.
