NUT sues education authority over asbestos-related death of teacher

The National Union of Teachers is serving a writ on Greenwich education authority in London, claiming negligence over the asbestos-related death of a 37-year-old teacher. It warned asbestos posed a risk to pupils and staff at many schools. The government has refused to make local authorities check schools for asbestos. Doug McAvoy, general secretary said: “Asbestos is a killer. The government knows this yet it fails to take even the simplest action.”
