Nuveen nabs Cairn Capital debt head

Nuveen has hired Cairn Capital’s head of real estate debt Peter Hansell as senior director of its European commercial real estate debt team.

Hansell will focus on debt investments, including seeking new opportunities and managing the firm’s debt strategies for the UK and continental Europe.

Nuveen Real Estate’s European CRE debt platform has €4.5bn (£3.8 bn) of assets under management, equating to around 13% of its €35bn global debt portfolio.

Prior to joining Cairn Capital, Hansell worked at Lehman Brothers, Bayerische Hypo and Vereinsbank, Standard & Poor’s, Royal Bank of Scotland and BNP Paribas Real Estate.

Nuveen’s European CRE debt head, Christian Janssen, said that Hansell would bring “over two decades of CRE debt experience and spanning several property cycles”. He predicted he would be a “key contributor in the continued expansion of our European debt business”.

Nuveen’s global debt platform has been investing since 1934, and now has a presence across the US, Europe and Asia-Pacific markets. It invests on behalf of a range of mandates from an institutional global client list.
