NYC RE Tech Week: Why I will never operate my business out of an office

When Nick Katz, the founder of household management app Acasa, was searching for an office for his nine-strong team, he realised he was actually looking for a home rather than a traditional office space.

Now operating out of an 1,000 sq ft flat in Shoreditch, which costs £250 per employee per month, he says he will never work out of a commercial space again.

“I always thought people would assume I was crazy if I suggested moving my team into a home,” he says.

“But when I asked them what they actually wanted and they said things like our own kitchen and space to nap if they stayed late, I realised that was exactly what they wanted too. It makes sense economically and is way cheaper than any co-working space I have ever found.

“It is not for everyone. It may not be appropriate for some client-facing firms to operate out of a home. It depends on who your audience is and what you stand for. But it is definitely a viable alternative to a traditional office space.”
