Offices proposed for landmark site

Private equity firm Carlyle Group and developer Bellhouse Joseph have submitted plans for a 90,000 sq ft office block on one of the City’s most historic sites.

11-15 Monument Street EC3

The 10-storey building, designed by Ken Shuttleworth’s Make, will be developed opposite Monument – the 202ft London landmark designed by Sir Christopher Wren and Robert Hooke and completed in 1677 to commemorate the Great Fire of London.

The freehold of the site – 11-15 Monument Street, EC3 – is owned by The Worshipful Group of Fishmongers.

The building has been designed so that Monument will act as a sundial with hour markers incorporated into the landscape of the roof terrace.

Robert Hodges, managing director of Carlyle Group, said: “We are excited about the prospect of bringing a landmark building to the City that encapsulates the confluence of past and future that this area represents.

“The commercial market remains strong, and we believe that this landmark development will be highly attractive to blue-chip companies wishing to have a headquarters in London.”
