Oldham Council in partnership with Muse has published a draft development framework for the transformation of the town centre.
The partners will be seeking feedback from a seven-week community conversation to help guide the development of the neighbourhood. The aim is to deliver 2,000 homes over the next 15 years.
The vision puts an emphasis on sustainability, community and quality, and is expected to deliver more local jobs and learning opportunities for the people of Oldham.
Following this summer’s community consultation, the development framework will be updated to reflect the feedback, before being reviewed by Oldham Council’s cabinet for adoption.
Phil Mayall, managing director at Muse, said: “We want Oldham to be a hub for local businesses, a destination characterised by homes, leisure and outdoor spaces, and a family-friendly place that reflects its heritage as a northern town.
“Working together with residents, businesses, local community groups, educational institutions, regional partners and charitable organisations will be fundamental to unlocking a framework that captures the essence of the town and its local community in order to deliver the new homes Oldham needs.”
Arooj Shah, leader of Oldham Council, added: “Together with Muse, we are creating new town centre living options, helping to make us one of the most exciting and dynamic places in Greater Manchester once again.”
