Oldham City Council is looking for an investment and development partner to deliver its £350m town centre regeneration scheme, plans for which are expected to be approved in a cabinet meeting on 26 March.
If approved, an OJEU notice will be triggered in June 2018 with the selection of a preferred partner in autumn 2019.
The 21-acre development will transform Oldham town centre over a 10-to-15-year period, with plans including:
■ 900 homes
■ New retail/leisure, including a new market (77,500 sq ft)
■ 120-bed hotel
■ New civic hub (241,000 sq ft)
■ New and refurbished offices (154,500 sq ft)
■ 600 space multi-storey car park
The masterplan is focused on areas of publicly owned land where sites are under-used and have buildings coming to the end of their economic life. Oldham City Council estimated the plans would add an extra £50m a year to the city’s economy, alongside hundreds of new jobs.
Oldham Council leader Jean Stretton said: “This is an exciting time for Oldham and we’ve made great progress in refining our plans to bring the town centre masterplan to market.
“We’re looking for a partner who shares our drive and ambition to make Oldham a great place to live, work and do business – and deliver on our vision for a town centre that can thrive round the clock as a place where residents want to live and spend their leisure time.”
Oldham Council is advised by Cushman & Wakefield, Eversheds Sutherland and KPMG.
